Snake Awareness and Rescue Training Held for Forest Department Staff in Andhra Pradesh

Save The Snakes Conservation Partner, the Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, recently held their first snake awareness and rescue training for the Forest Department staff of Andhra Pradesh. The program was a huge success!

From the Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society:
“Andhra Pradesh Forest Department organized the first ever snake awareness and rescue training program for its frontline staff at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam in collaboration with Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society. We are extremely thankful to the Forest Department for giving us an opportunity to collaborate! Special thanks to Madras Crocodile Bank Trust/Centre for Herpetology for sharing some amazing documentaries on snakes which were screened at the workshop.”

To better prepare Forest Department staff to mitigate human-snake conflict, this program has been designed to teach participants about snake ecology, species identification, conservation, snakebite treatment, and professional snake handling techniques. Now the staff members will be able to safely rescue and relocate snakes. This new collaborative effort between the Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society and the Forest Department will greatly benefit snake conservation efforts in South India!
