This snake is more than just a resident; he is a vital part of our mission to change the narrative around misunderstood wildlife. However, he is missing one thing: the perfect name.

Timber Rattlesnakes are a quintessential American species, woven into the very fabric of United States’ national history and ecology. In 1775, writing under a pseudonym, Benjamin Franklin famously argued why the rattlesnake was the perfect symbol for the American spirit, noting:

“I recollected that her eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids. She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance. She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage… Conscious of [her weapons], she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.”
