Save The Snakes protects threatened snake populations through habitat preservation, education and community outreach to create a harmonious relationship between humans and snakes.
Save The Snakes works to reduce negative interactions between humans and snakes by implementing mitigation strategies which will lead to peaceful coexistence. To accomplish our mission, we educate communities on the importance of snakes in ecosystems, how to coexist without conflict and how to treat snakebite situations should they occur. We also protect snake habitat, conduct research that supports snake conservation efforts, and train local citizens to become “para-ecologists”, that manage human-snake conflicts and assist in snake conservation efforts. We establish trust with rural communities, provide solutions that decrease human-snake conflicts and utilize indigenous local knowledge of wildlife and their ecosystems. While our in-situ conservation efforts are currently focused in Southeast Asia, we work globally to promote our mission.
Established in 2017, Save The Snakes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to snake conservation and human-snake conflict mitigation. While our organization was originally founded in Florida, the Save The Snakes International Headquarters has relocated and settled in Sacramento, California.
