Jake Li

Jake Li specializes in environmental policies and laws, with a focus on endangered species conservation. He currently works for the Biden-Harris Administration as a deputy assistant administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s chemical safety office, where his top policy priority is to reduce the effects of pesticides on endangered species. Immediately before joining EPA, Jake helped grow the Environmental Policy Innovation Center, where he was their Director for Biodiversity. Before that role, Jake worked in various positions at Defenders of Wildlife, including as its first Director of the Center for Conservation Innovation and the V.P. of Endangered Species Policy. Jake has also published widely on wildlife conservation issues and is the co-editor of Endangered Species Act: Law, Policy, and Perspectives (2021). Jake has a J.D. from Cornell University, where he also took graduate courses in conservation biology and herpetology. He has been fascinated with snakes for over three decades and has worked with over 80 species of snakes in captivity and the wild.
