April Stevenson

At a very young age April Stevenson would hike the San Bruno Mountain in South San Francisco and come back home with whatever creatures her mother let her keep. She began working at a pet store in her teen years, spending most of her time building and maintaining the habitats for a wide variety of herps and insects. This led her to working in animal sheltering where she continued to appreciate the more exotic domestic pets. She started a reptile rescue that was able to provide medical treatment for neglected reptiles, adopted them out, and provided education about proper husbandry. Venturing further into Animal Control, she began to see the need for protecting rattlesnakes from unnecessary eradication and began to educate the public on their importance in the ecosystem. April‘s family began to grow, so she decided to close her reptile rescue. Since she had experience in shelter management and volunteering with wildlife centers, April pursued her degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management to learn how to best support the human-animal relationship. April joined the Save the Snakes ecotour to Costa Rica in 2022 and decided to be more involved in the global efforts of snake conservation. She brings over two decades of animal welfare experience to Save the Snakes, including multiple years of managing in the non-profit sector. Her goal now is to support the operations of Save the Snakes and assist in the growth and development of the business while fundraising to expand efforts in conservation and management.
